Ice Box Rolls
2 cups milk
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
6 cups flour
1/2 cup shortening
2 yeast cakes
Put milk in pan. Add sugar. Add shortening. Scald milk
with sugar and shortening added, then take off fire, add
salt, then cool to lukewarm temperature. Add yeast cakes and
stir until dissolved. Beat in flour gradually, then toss on
bread board, knead lightly, place back in pan and let rise
until double in size (1 ½ -2 hours), take out, knead down,
pinch off small amount of dough and roll out with rolling
pin 1/2 inch thick, cut with biscuit cutter. Fold over
dipping in melted butter. Place in well greased pan, cover
and let rise 1 1/2-2 hours in warm place. Cook in moderate
oven about 15 minutes. Place remainder of dough in
refrigerator and use as desired.
