8/29/11 Oh, please! Who makes this stuff up, and what's the point? The real story is interesting enough. I first saw this video and half a dozen others from Animusic quite a few years ago. It's all done in a computer, which makes it a LOT easier than building an actual machine, but it's still quite an achievement. Here's another one, and there's more to be found on YouTube if you're interested. |

7/15/11 Just a quick note to all Harry Potter fans before Lee and I slip out to set up our tent on the sidewalk so we can be first in line tomorrow. We recently watched all seven of the DVDs so we could have a better chance of understanding WTF is going on. But probably some of you neglected to do that, and as I write this it's too late to view all 17 hours and 34 minutes of those seven films before the box office opens. So here's a quick summary to refresh your memory: |

7/6/11 I've just realized I've been missing out on a major cultural phenomenon and freak show. It began with seeing Lawrence O'Donnell bidding farewell to Glenn Beck on the occasion of that maniac's last day on Fox. He showed a compilation of clips of Beck's crazier moments. I was STUNNED. I have never watched Beck, for the same reason I don't listen to Flush Limbaugh on the radio or read the books of Ann Coulter. Basically, I just can't hack the spewing of venom and hatred. I can read of their latest insanity in the headlines, I don't need to experience them first-hand. But in doing so, I was missing out on understanding just how snot-slinging slobbering-spewing shit-smearing bugfuck bull-goose LOONEY the man is. My jaw kept dropping lower and lower as Beck capered around the studio like a drunken monkey, howled at the moon, shouted, wailed, moaned, spoke in tongues, did everything but try to dry-fuck the camera. And I thought, "People WATCH this! People LIKE it! They BELIEVE it!" Now I almost wish I HAD watched an hour or so .... because Jon Stewart recently devoted most of a show to a "parody" of Glenn Beck. And I think it is funny as hell, but until just now I would have thought that Stewart was a little over the top, as he sometimes tends to be. I knew about the famous blackboards, and of course I'd read about the stupid and hateful and racist and totally illogical conspiracy-theory things he has said. But I hadn't understood the tent-revival freak-show PRESENTATION the man uses. And I understood that Stewart was not doing a parody, he was doing an IMPERSONATION, and a dead-on one, at that. If I'd had just a disgusting TASTE of Glenn Beck, I would have thought this was even funnier. |

6/27/11 Here's the TSA protecting us from a 6-year-old. Why complain? It's what the cowardly public demanded. They also just forced a 95-year-old woman dying of cancer to remove her wet diaper, too. What I don't understand is why they don't search the two most obvious places women have of concealing bombs and weapons, that is, up the ass and vagina. Bend over, Grandma! Spread 'em, kid! This country is going in the toilet, and we asked for it. |

6/22/11 What's the most boring thing in the world to watch? Paint drying? Grass growing? They have a website for both of those things. (There's a website for EVERYTHING these days. Did you know that in 1993 there were about 130 websites? Now there are 162,000,000.) But here's a good one. Watching a light bulb. What's it doing? Just glowing. This is remarkable, however, since it was switched on June 18, 1901, and has been glowing continually, never turned off, for 110 years and two days! Just thought it might amuse you. |

5/5/11 Is it just me, or is there something deeply creepy about this? I get the feeling these people would run screaming if they encountered something made of wood, and wouldn't be able to figure out how to turn the page on a paper magazine. Were those real eggs in a real frying pan, or are they eating virtual food, too? On the other hand, why not a virtual dog that's projected on the baseboards and floors? You could throw it a virtual tennis ball and watch him chase it down. Or a virtual cat, with a virtual litter box you could clean up with a sweep of the finger on a touch screen? Any why aren't the bed and covers made of Corning Cozy-Sleep Flexible Bedding Glass? |

3/15/11 I find this very sad. News today is more about the COVERAGE than about the actual EVENT. These asshole TALKING HEADS have taken over our lives. Everything is now analyzed so relentlessly, everyone is so busy telling us what they think, and therefore what WE should think, that you almost forget about the actual story they are covering. If the Earth were to be impacted by a giant asteroid, I'd almost dread the coverage worse than the actual catastrophe. But you can be certain they would have the proper dazzling kinetic exploding graphic for the event, and a properly ominous musical theme. And our opinion-makers would remain at their desks, the cameras on THEM, while in a small box in the bottom corner of your screen the actual impact would unfold, over and over and over. |

2/21/11 Lee and I and Kevin Bacon (who I'm only one degree of separation from) are "Antiques Roadshow" addicts. We love it when somebody brings in some ugly lamp they paid $2 for at a yard sale and it turns out to be Tiffany, or finds out a painting they pulled out of a dumpster is worth $100,000. Both of these things have happened. Or even when somebody's granddaddy bought a jade carving for $50 and it turns out to be worth ... well, wait and see. So we're declaring ANTIQUES ROADSHOW FORTNIGHT. We will count down the TOP TWELVE valuations, and add two bonus rounds at the end. (Saturday Cartoon is temporarily suspended for the duration.) Hope you enjoy them.
